Dental Implants

We embrace the latest methods and materials to ensure the best results. But perhaps more importantly, we explain the procedure in plain English. Making complex issues easy to understand.

We recognise each patient and each implant is different.

That’s why we go to great lengths to talk through every aspect of your surgery before any treatment is started. And we keep the dialogue going throughout the whole implant journey.

White (composite) fillings are now the treatment of choice in most situations. There are some limitations under NHS regulations as to where these may be provided but NHS patients are entitled to take advantage of these materials on a private basis too. While amalgam (silver fillings) are good for some applications white fillings bond to the tooth supporting the enamel and limiting the amount of tooth destruction required. They now have a similar life expectancy to amalgam and it’s so much nicer to have teeth that look like teeth!! Please ask us if you have any questions about material choices.

When a tooth is badly damaged or root canal treated (which can weaken the tooth) a crown may be the best way to restore it. There are many materials a crown can be made from.

There are some limitations as to what materials we can use on an NHS basis e.g. Bonded metal crowns for premolars and incisors and metallic crowns for molars.

The best materials for crowns today are modern ceramics like LAVA and Core 3D. The advantage of these materials is that they are long lasting, cause less irritation to the soft tissue i.e. gums and cheeks and are aesthetically superior. There can be some issues with metals in crowns irritating the soft tissues of the mouth so avoiding metal is generally a preference.

As ever if you have any questions on the best material to restore your teeth please ask your dentist.

Another way to restore gaps or replace a full set of teeth. From full acrylic (plastic) to partial acrylic dentures and chrome cobalt framed dentures it’s probably best to discuss the denture design with one of our dentists. They will outline pros and cons and what is possible.

Implants may provide an alternative to having to have that removable plate

When there is a space in your mouth it might be restored with a bridge. This involves crowning a tooth or teeth beside the space and attached to this is the “missing tooth”.

This is a great, simple and quick way to restore that gap and get you smiling again.

Now you can have the smile of your dreams without anyone knowing that you are being treated. SmileTRU is a series of clear positioners that can be offered as an alternative to fixed braces for most people. Each positioner is designed to fit over the teeth and gently guide them into the desired position.

The benefits to SmieTRU are:

  • Comfortable
  • Affordable
  • Clear
  • Safe
  • Removable for eating and drinking
  • No dietary restrictions
  • Minimal impact on daily routine

Tooth whitening is a great, non-invasive way to brighten your smile. It involves taking impressions and the dentist providing a whitening tray into which a carbamide peroxide gel is placed. Typically the trays are worn for 2hrs per evening for 2-3 weeks. It does not damage enamel but you may experience some temporary mild sensitivity. This will always resolve within about 24 hrs. If you would like to discuss tooth whitening with your dentist in more detail please call us to arrange a consultation.
